Is Squarespace actually free?

a clear look at what “free” means before you step inside the platform

People ask this one with a very specific tone. A mix of hope, caution, and the quiet fear that the internet is about to trick them again. I understand it. Every platform claims to be simple, generous, and painless until you read the fine print that ruins your afternoon.

Squarespace uses a different kind of promise.
Right on their homepage you see the line:

“Start for free. No credit card required.”

That is the surface truth. When you click into their pricing page, the second truth appears:

“Free for 14 days.”

Both are correct. Both are honest.
But neither of them mean you are getting a fully free website.

HERE IS WHAT actually HAPPENS.

  1. You sign up.

  2. You receive fourteen days to explore the space without commitment. You can build pages. You can move blocks around. You can play with structure and color. You can see if the platform feels intuitive or if it makes you want to close your laptop and lie on the floor for a while. You can begin shaping your entire site in private as long as you want, although it stays behind a curtain until you choose a plan.

YOU CAN CREATE quite a lot.

  • You can get your layout ready.

  • You can draft copy.

  • You can design your home page.

  • You can experiment with what your practice or business should feel like online.

BUT AT THE END OF THE TRIAL, you will reach a fork in the road.

  1. You can upgrade to a paid plan.

  2. You can walk away.

  3. You can bring in a pro when the reality of website building starts feeling heavier than expected.

THIS IS WHERE MY ROLE becomes helpful.

Because I am a Squarespace Partner, your fourteen-day trial becomes six months if you hire me before the trial ends.
Six months is a different experience entirely.
Six months means space to breathe.
Six months means we can build without pressure scraping at the door. (But let’s be honest, we only need 30 days with the 4-week Formula)

If you want to stay fully on your own, you will commit to a paid plan once the trial ends. The details of plan costs live inside How Much Does a Squarespace Website Cost, which explains everything clearly.

So, is SQUARESPACE really FREE?

Only at the very beginning.
The important part is what you can do with those first days, and how you want to move once the countdown reaches zero.

If you want your trial to last long enough to build something real, or if you want help turning a blank layout into a website that feels like you, I can walk through it with you.
